New Jersey Graf
Featuring unique styles and innovations made by some of New Jersey's finest grafitti artists, NJ Graf highlighted legal graffiti produced by individual artists and crews (completed in collaboration among artisits). NJ Graf, curated by Leon Rainbow, was part of the New Jersey Graffiti Festival.
Green Architecture (verdant like me): Recent work of James R. Burton
More than 45 architectural models which, in conjunction with drawings and photographs, propose a new interpretation of the term "green architecture." Burton's work makes clear that drawings and models do not exist simply to represent another (more real) reality that is to be found elsewhere, but are full-fledged works (artifacts) in their own right and are a part of a continuum of thought which may or may not include the buildings which they describe in some way. James Burton obtained his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech in 1986 and has studied at MIT and Penn State. He lives and works in Princeton, New Jersey.
Mel Leipzig: Portrait of a College
Mel Leipzig is a realist painter who paints both his highly detailed models and their environments directly from life, often with unusual perspectives. "Portrait of a College" features recent paintings featuring faculty, staff and students of Mercer County Community College. Leipzig studied painting at Cooper Union, Yale University, and Pratt Institute, where he received his MFA. His work appears in the collections of museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Cooper Hewitt Museum, and the New Jersey State Museum. He is represented by Gallery Henochi in New York City.
Trenton Visionaries: The Work of Trenton's A-Team
Visionary Art is defined as art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that is expressed in the creative act itself. Visionary art is "outsider" art because the raw and often idiosyncratic works do not typically fall within the bounds of fine or contemporary art. The exhibition features artwork from 21 artists from the A-TEAM of Trenton, the artists' cooperative based at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. The artists work in a wide variety of media, including paint, pencil and ink, pastel, collage, photography and found object construction. Many of these artists illustrate their artistic vision and spiritual journeys, share memories of family and home or document social and political issues.
