We are trying a "rolling" appoach to enrollment. Tell us what classes you
are interested in,
and as soon as we have enough interested participants -
we'll start the class. We hope that this will allow us to accomodate
varied schedules and maximize participants.

Class Descriptions and Registration (PDF)

Adult & Teen Classes

Printmaking - Open Studio
Monitor: Susan Freeman
When:Tuesdays 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Experienced printmakers may work independently in the studio. Facilities include etching and block printing presses, blankets, tarlatan, blotters, and black ink. Bring your own materials.
Fee: $20 per session
Drawing From the Model - Open Studio
When: Sundays - 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. Teens under 18 must have parental permission.
Drop in and draw from a different model every week. Thirty-second, 2-minute, and 20-minute poses may include props or drapery. Easels provided. Bring your own paper and drawing mediums. No toxic sprays. Easels provided.
Fee: $15 per session
Watercolor Anarchy
Instructor: Gail Bracegirdle
When: Saturdays, 10:00 am- 1:00 p.m.
Work from still life, photos or your inner being. Using basic watercolors, textured papers, collage, monoprints and layering, enjoy the flow of watercolor in a supportive and creative group setting. Each class finishes with a critique this group of Anarchists calls "show & tell."
Fee: $150 / April $90 May + materials (list provided before first class)
Furniture Making
Instructor: Alan Siswein
When: Mondays 6:30-9:30 p.m. - class held at instructor’s studio off S. Broad Street in Trenton - start dates TBD.
Learn to use, care for and sharpen basic woodworking hand tools. Make a half-lap joint in wood from hand planned and prepared stock. Class limited to 5
Fee: $190 plus materials fees
Wire Jewelry 1 (Introduction)
Instructor: Dorothy Arnao
When: Monday, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Wireless sculpting is a solder-less way to set stones and create jewelry. In this introductory class, learn about tools, wire, coils, jumprings as connectors, crimps and Greek leather cord. Students make a necklace, bracelet and anklet with limited-edition polymer clay beads.
Fee: $30 plus $35 for the kit
Wire Jewelry 2
Instructor: Dorothy Arnao
When: Monday, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Learn to create cages and coils with wire and produce a bracelet. (See full description above).

Wire Jewelry 3
Instructor: Dorothy Arnao
When: Monday, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
In the third workshop, learn to make multi-gemstone earrings using wire, jumprings, ear wires, headpins and gemstone beads. (See full description above).
Fee:: $30 plus $35 for the kit
Wire Jewelry 4
Instructor: Dorothy Arnao
When: Monday, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
In the final workshop, create a sculpted pendant with beads and freshwater pearls using square wire and basic bales. The techniques of wire wrapping and twisting are covered. (See full description above).
Fee: $30 plus $35 for the kit
Oil Painting II
Instructor: Larry Chestnut
When: Mondays, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Geared for the experienced painter who has some understanding of composition, color, technique and materials needed to execute an oil painting. Emphasis is on application of the fundamentals. Individual projects are discussed with the teacher and reviewed periodically by the class as a means to understanding various techniques. Bring supplies to the first class for discussion and review.
Fee:: $150 plus your own materials
Fabric Collage
Instructor: Beverly B. Keese-Kelley
When: Tuesdays, 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Use fabrics and textiles to create unique pieces of artwork. Learn about different types of fabrics and textiles, their weights and how they work together. Produce one large or several small collages. Some materials provided.
Fee: $100 plus materials
Draw What You See
Instructor: Norma Jean DeVico
When:Wednesday, 10:30 am - 1:00 p.m.
This beginning drawing class helps you observe your subject, and draw what is in front of you instead of what you assume is there. Learn to render in pencil, charcoal and ink wash.
Fee: $150 plus materials
Introduction to Illustration & Design
Instructor:Donald Jones
When:, Wednesdays 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. Teens Class on Saturdays, 11:00 am - 1pm
Beginners and advanced level artists will explore the fine art of illustration and design. Learn the special techniques used to design book jackets, greeting cards, communications materials, magazine covers, stage sets, movie posters, children’s picture book, and model making for special effects.
Fee:: $100 plus materials for Wednesday Class or $80 plus materials for Teen Class on Saturday
Printmaking Sampler
Instructor:Susan Freeman
When:Wednesday, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Discover chine colle, collagraph, drypoint and monoprint and have fun combining techniques. If familiar with printmaking, pursue your own muse with our etching and block printing presses. Ink, blotters and tarlatan are provided

From Trash to Treasure: Developing Your Artistic Vision
Instructor:Emilia Kestin
When:Thursday, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m
Opening your mind to endless re-do possibilities. Supply your own trash - chairs, tables, lamps, decorative items, household accessories - for a hands-on, see-and-do workshop. Learn about various furniture styles and techniques to help create your own ‘objet d’art.’ Give an old piece a new identity. Class limited to 7
Fee: $180 - Bring your own ‘Objet d’art. Materials based on student’s chosen project.
Interior Design
Instructor:Eva Kaplan
When:Saturday, 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
Learn about furniture styles; furniture arrangement; window, wall, and floor treatments; textiles and materials; color; lighting; accessorizing and decorating resources. Influences from various cultures, including Feng Shui, are included.
Fee: $100 plus $8 materials fee
Plein Air Oil Painting
Instructor:Larry Chestnut
When:Sunday, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Indoors we cover history of plein air, timing, procedures, materials and techniques followed by an outdoor demonstration by the teacher. The majority of class time is outside.
Fee: $50 plus materials fee

Children's Classes

Prehistoric Trenton (8-12 year olds)
Instructor:Beth Daly
When:Tuesday, 4:15 - 5:30 pm.
Telescope time - millions of years in six weeks. Start way back in time when Trenton was under the sea; Create sea shells and fish, move up to dinosaur time and end with wooly mammoths and saber-tooth tigers roaming the area. Limited to 12.
Fee: $72 includes materials
Super Silly and Social Studio
When:Thursdays, 4:00-5:30 p.m.
In partnership with CitySmiles, this Open Studio is an opportunity for you and your child to have fun, make a mess, and try out new materials and projects – while meeting friends and neighbors. Children and parents will have the opportunity to suggest materials and projects as well. This “class” is a drop in type of activity. Come as you can, pay when you come. You can come every week, but if your child is sick - you take a break. Please bring an extra shirt for your child for messy projects.
