Community Partners Come Together to Create a Masterpiece
I Am Trenton Community Foundation and Art All Night/Artworks Co-Produce
Art Making Day on Saturday, May 5, 2012

Trenton, April 17, 2012 – Saturday, May 5, Trenton community members of all ages and generations are invited to come to the Artworks facility, located at 19 Everett Alley, Trenton, NJ for its 3rd annual Art Making Day – a free community event allowing participants to create unique and diverse pieces of original artwork under the direction of some of the region’s most talented and skilled art instructors.

Celebrated each Spring as a way to promote the arts and the ability to submit ones creations for free to Art All Night 2012 — the largest 24-hour art exhibition in the state of New Jersey — Art Making Day is an Art All Night/Artworks initiative that promotes the ability to educate and connect the entire community through various forms of expression.  Art Making Day observes the influence of diversity and culture within the arts and the areas Artworks and I Am Trenton Community Foundation serves.

“The arts are an essential component to thriving communities,” said Kelly Ingram, board member with I Am Trenton.   “Art Making Day provides all of our community the opportunity to come together and experience the pleasure and power of creativity.”

During Art Making Day, participants of all ages and skill levels will have the opportunity to try out various mediums and improve on their creative skills while connecting with each other. There will be something for everyone at one of the event’s 10 art making stations. In addition, everyone will have the opportunity to showcase their work – the event will allow its community artists the opportunity to submit their work for viewing and possibly selling at Art All Night 2012, Trenton’s most anticipated arts event of the year.

With the focus on its diverse community, Artworks and I Am Trenton aim to attract individuals who may never have had the opportunity to participate in any prior arts education classes or programs. The event empowers the community members by helping them realize their full potential.  Flyers will be distributed throughout the community in three languages, English, Spanish and Polish.

Art Making Day will host a variety of activities including: watercolor resist painting, plaster casting, wire portraits and a “mystery mural”  are to name a few of the FREE Workshops.   Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information about Art Making Day, please contact Lynn Lemyre at 609-394-9436 or visit www.artworkstrenton.org.
