Children's Activities and Events

The Art All Night - Trenton Kid Zone has always been a huge part of AAN and this year is no different. In 2013, we hosted everything from arts and crafts to sidewalk chalk art classes and even a seminar hosted by one of the 50 Disney artists actually permitted to draw Disney characters off Disney premises.

  • Fairy Tale Creation in the Gingerbook House
Participants will collaborate in writing a giant storybook tale inside the Gingerbook House!
Each person will write a sentence on the wall with black marker. The sentence will continue the story that will eventually cover the interior walls of the house.
The Gingerbook House is made of recycled books and found objects. The book cover "shingles" were whitewashed, allowing artists to reimagine the cover during our Art Making Day event.

  • Zentangles
Participants will create their own Zentagles! Zentangles are drawings based on shapes and patterns. Zentangles could well become the hippest new refrigerator decor.

  • Blown Ink/Watercolor Landscape Painting
Kids will create a painting using a modified version of the Japanese blown ink method (straws will be used). First, black ink will be blown over the paper to create a silhouette shape of a tree or something similar. After the ink dries, watercolor paint will be applied to create a landscape akin to Chinese and Japanese scroll paintings. After the image dries, the young artist will be allowed to take their art with them.

  • Color Mixing Theory
Children will learn the basics of color mixing in this informative activity. Water based paints will be mixed and applied to a 3" x 3" canvas. After the canvas dries, the young artist is free to take their art.

  • Artworks 50/25 Happy Birthday Card Making
2014 marks 50 years that Artworks has been an arts organization and 25 years that we have been a part of the Trenton art community! Help us celebrate by creating a birthday card and giving it to us so that we may display it at our 50/25 gala in December! The cards will be collected by an Art All Night volunteer when the young artist is finished.
